Periscope ups its 'Super Hearts' payments to influencers

Twitter's Periscope is changing the way it rewards livestreamers who earn 'Super Hearts' from their viewers, lowering its revenue share so they receive more money.

The service introduced Super Hearts in June 2017 as a way for viewers to buy virtual coins and then spend them to float larger, animated heart icons up the screen as appreciation when watching someone's broadcast.

Influencers could sign up to a new Super Broadcaster Program and take a 70% cut of the revenues from Super Hearts used during their livestreams.

From now on, they'll get more. "Starting today and moving forward, Periscope will give all of our earnings from the Super Broadcasters Program — with the exception of a $1 administration fee per broadcaster payout — to those in the program," blogged Periscope.

The admin fee will cover development costs for the feature, as well as monthly payment processing. Periscope is also introducing holiday bonuses for broadcasters in November and December, offering sums of $100 and $250 if they reach certain milestones.

Brand partnerships and influencer marketing campaigns continue to be a key source of revenue for live-streamers, but the live-video services they use have also been upping their features for creators to make money directly from fans – from paid emotes on Twitch to the 'Props' tokens system in soon-to-launch app Rize.
