Twitter’s Periscope live-streaming service is taking its ‘Super Broadcaster’ program beyond the US, opening it up to broadcasters in the UK, Ireland and Canada.
The initiative launched earlier this year in the US, with viewers able to pay real money to send ‘Super Hearts’ to streamers whose video they’re enjoying.
Those Super Hearts contributed to another metric – ‘Star Balance’ – for broadcasters, who could change those stars into hard cash: but only if they were American.
Now British, Irish and Canadian Periscope users will be able to join in too. They’ll also benefit from Periscope’s changes made in November, which saw it promise to give all the earnings from the program – minus a $1 per payout – to its streamers.
“We’ll be reviewing applications, working to sign up qualifying broadcasters, and will expand the program to additional countries as soon as we can,” explained Periscope in a blog post.
