Up until January this year, YouTube has been displaying 30 second long adverts before a video. However, some of these adverts seem to still be running despite Google stating they'd stop in 2018.
Some of these ads can be skipped, but some pre-roll videos don't have a skip button and viewers have to sit through the whole thing before they can watch a video.
Google stated last year that they'd be discontinuing the long form advert in 2018, and the change began to take effect in January. While the service seems to be dialling down, some advertisers are still running. Companies such as Time Warner, Verizon and GMC are still rolling the 30 second clips out across the platform.
It takes time
A spokeswoman at YouTube said: "We stopped supporting 30-second unstoppable ads as of January 2018, but while we ramp down, a very small number of impressions coming from third-party ad sellers might still be working its way through our systems,"
"As always, we're working with our partners to focus on formats that work well for both users and advertisers."
Facebook began working on a six second ad format last year. It seems that these shorter ads are beginning to replace the long form 30 second ads that are traditionally shown on broadcast television. Other platforms such as YouTube have been quick to follow suit.
