Job Description

We're looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our thriving studio.

We're looking for someone to manage our code team across multiple projects, including external partners and across both our studios in Middlesbrough and Kuala Lumpur. Reporting to the Development Manager, you would be responsible for code resource allocation across all our current projects, progression frameworks, hiring, personal development of code team members, budgeting and scheduling milestones. This is a "hands off" role so you won't be involved in the technical aspects of a project's development, instead this will be all about being business facing with team management.

You'll have a proven track record in managing a code team or good experience gained from a Lead Programmer position looking to move up into a full management position. It's essential you have a technical / programmer background within the video games industry.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Managing resource allocation across all current projects
  • Helping to evolve our Code team progression frameworks
  • Identifying Skills shortages across the code department and formulating a plan to fill them
  • Interviewing and hiring of new programmers
  • Personal development of the code team department members
  • Budgeting and scoping milestones required for new content or extended scope on current projects
  • Managing the code team across both our studios in Middlesbrough and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  • One - 2 - One's with the Lead Programmers

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Strong Technical / Programmer background in the video games industry
  • Proven track record as a Lead Programmer or in a technical manager role
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Excellent communication skills both up and down stream
  • Ability to motivate and able to lead by example
  • Excellent time management, multitasking skills and the ability to process complex information efficiently

SKILLS OR INTERESTS CONSIDERED A BONUS (NOT NEEDED TO APPLY)

  • Business management experience
  • Relevant degree qualification
  • Strong general knowledge of the video game production process - ideally a comprehensive end-to-end oversight from within the industry
  • Experience working on titles or projects with live operations
  • Knowledge and experience of game engines such as Unity, UE4 Experience with SCRUM or AGILE methodologies
