YouTube vlogger Saffron Barker has confirmed her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing 2019. She is the fourth confirmed contestant for the upcoming series of the show.
Starring alongside the currently confirmed David James, comedian Chris Ramsey and EastEnders star Emma Barton, Barker will compete in numerous dancing challenges with a professional partner.
She is the second online creator to appear on the show, following fellow YouTube content creator Joe Sugg in 2018, who danced his way to the finals, though lost to Stacey Dooley and partner Kevin Clifton.
During the announcement made on Heart FM, Barker said, “‘I am really excited to go on the Strictly journey and am feeling very grateful for the opportunity.
“I’m looking forward to learning all of the dances, finding out who my partner is, getting to wear the costumes and to just experience this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
The 19-year-old YouTuber has also faced backlash regarding her announcement, following a video she uploaded las year wherein she complains that her commute was delayed following a suicide.
“[It should have taken] 50 minutes, but instead it took me four and a half hours. So that was amazing.
“So basically, obviously it’s really sad, someone did get hit by a train, but it meant that I couldn’t get home and it wasn’t just I couldn’t get home, it was the most stressful thing.”
While the creator has since apologised for her comments, previous online creators have been removed from appearing in shows following past comments, including Jack Maynard being pulled from I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2017.
