YouTube is limiting how much time moderators spend searching for disturbing content

Video behemoth YouTube plans to restrict how much time its moderators spend sifting through bad content on the platform.

Speaking with Wired at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas, CEO Susan Wojcicki said that moderators will be limited to only four hours of watching offensive or disturbing videos.

"This is a real issue, and I myself have spent a lot of time looking at this content over the past year. It is really hard," Wojcicki said.

"Our goal is to start with a list of internet conspiracies listed on the internet where there is a lot of active discussion on YouTube."

As well as restricting the hours moderators work, YouTube also plans to provide 'wellness' benefits. Google's mods are usually external contractors, so they won't recieve the same benefits that full staff get.

10,000 men

YouTube recently said it would hire an additional 10,000 eyes to tackle the waves of grim content appeearing on the platform.

Additionally, YouTube claims to have removed 150,000 offensive videos from the platform since June 2017.

The company is also working to combat conspiracy theorists using YouTube. The site will add Wikipedia links to content in an attempt to debunk any potential misinformation found in videos
