Ninja discusses the responsibility of his influence: “It’s a calling”

Fortnite streamer Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins has claimed he realises that his popularity brings with it a responsibility to behave properly.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about his now famous Fortnite stream with rapper Drake, Blevins said: "If I was talking about getting high the whole time, that would've been a horrible look. A streamer doesn't understand the power they have.

"We're literally molding and shaping the minds of these kids. There are these massive people on YouTube and Twitch that are not doing anything with the responsibility they have. We need to be instilling good morals in these kids.

“It's a calling."

Blevins’ wife Jessica ‘JGhosty’ Goch added: "Morals were already important in our relationship. Once hundreds of thousands of people started following us on Twitter, we had sit downs and said, 'We can never let our morals go.' … That's our number one, letting people know what we believe in."

With great power comes great responsibility

This, of course, all comes in the wake of Ninja’s recent flirtation with controversy after he was heard to rap the n-word on stream.

“While I am confident that most of this is a misunderstanding, I recognize that it’s my responsibility to never let there be THIS kind of a misunderstanding,” he said in the wake of the incident.

“It is my job, and hopefully I’m usually good at it, to make everyone feel welcome, valued, and safe to be themselves. The best way I can explain it is that I promise that I understand how much pain that word causes, even if it gets used a lot in music and elsewhere. It’s a word historically used to divide people, and I’m about bringing people together.”
