Disney Digital is set to launch a free video app this summer. The announcement was made yesterday at Disney Digital's NewFronts talk.
The app will contain content managed by the studio from the likes of Oh My Disney, as well as YouTube creators under that are signed to Disney under the Maker label.
This isn't the first instance of Disney creating a video platform - the company is set to release a streaming platform to rival Netflix in 2019.
Disney's new app will be fueled by advertising, and the company is working to ensure that brands will be safe on the platform. The digital media space is still shaken after recent YouTube controversy, and Disney aims to offer it's platform as a safe alternative both for consumers and marketers.
A safe space
“We know that our clients and advertisers are looking for unique, compelling, brand-safe, and diverse ways to reach audiences at scale,” said Disney's president of advertising sales and marketing Rita Ferro.
“The results that Disney Digital Network has generated for advertisers in the last year alone prove that we are delivering on those needs.”
