The 2018 YouTube Rewind was not well received by the YouTube community.
In fact, the video very quickly became the most-disliked piece of content on the entire website. The 2018 Rewind was criticised for being disconnected from its audience, as well as not actually featuring notable events from the last year.
Of course, YouTube's flagship creator Felix 'PewDiePie' Kjellberg was not present at the annual celebration; his mere existence is still enough to unsettle even the hardiest of advertisers.
Alternate Rewind
However, that didn't stop the YouTuber from surfing the trend. In response to the Rewind, Kjellberg made his own, featuring all of the 2018 trends and memes that YouTube failed to mention. The video is titled 'YouTube Rewind but it's actually good'.
The YouTube community responded positively to Kjellberg's parody video. In just one week, the alternate Rewind has become the most-liked non-music video on YouTube. Not only that, but it's also the fastest-liked video in YouTube history.
Kjellberg has not always set the best example on YouTube, but his continued success may suggest he's more in touch with YouTube's audience than the platform itself.
