To promote shopping online via Instagram, the company created @shop, an account that will promote and link back to shopping tags for small businesses selling a variety of products.
Users will be able to just tap on the posting made by the account and go directly to the products being promoted.
The account currently has over 50k followers and has shared products and stories from independent designers and artists.
This continues Instagrams efforts to encourage its users to shop through Instagram, rather than needing to venture to external websites to purchase products. Last year, the platform rolled out in-app shopping in order to streamline transactions.
In late April, the Checkout feature was implemented and given to more than 50 different creators to test out. Users were able to save payment information and link to their Paypal accounts when purchasing items.
