Izea mixes influencer marketing and augmented reality

Thanks to Pokemon Go, Apple's ARKit and Snapchat's dancing hotdog, augmented reality (AR) technology is currently enjoying its time in the sun. But can it play a role in influencer marketing?

Startup Izea hopes so. It's just debuted a tool called 'augmented sponsorship' which it hopes will make virtual product-placement a thing in social stars' videos.

"We have made it easy for any brand or agency to distribute AR content to influencers using the workflow tools available in IZEAx," said CEO Ted Murphy, referring to Izea's tool for hooking up influencers with brands.

"Our platform provides dynamic targeting and delivery of 3D assets to individual influencers, enabling those influencers to place and manipulate virtual objects, and include them in their content creation process."

"This opens up a whole new way for Influencers to engage with brands and produce compelling sponsored visual content for their audiences."

US furniture-rental firm CORT is already using the tool for an influencer-marketing campaign that will see its range of furniture appearing in videos online. Like this one.

There may be potential for the tool to be used for games videos too, particularly for those with strong characters who might look good capering around in the real world with influencers.
