Armed fan who broke into YouTuber’s home was shot dead by police

A fan who invaded the home of YouTube stars Gavin Free and Megan Turney was shot dead by police at the scene, it has been confirmed.

Free is the creator of YouTube channel The Slow Mo Guys and Turney is a former Rooster Teeth host. Kotaku reports that the pair hid in a closet during the incident, from which they called the authorities.

A man named Christopher Giles drove 11 hours from New Mexico to the couple’s home in Texas. He was described by police as “single, lonely and disturbed”. At least one round was fired in the house as he searched the house. Police arrived at the scene as Giles was attempting to leave, at which point he was ordered to stop. Giles then opened fire at the officers, and was shot dead.

It had initially been speculated that Giles may have shot himself.

A detective found “various notations identifying Megan Turney and Gavin Free by name” on Giles’ phone along with evidence of a planned burglary and murder of the couple and recordings of threatening thoughts. One expressed a desire to see Free “die alone with no children”.

Giles was described as a keen video gamer and YouTube viewer.
