TikTok, the social app from Beijing’s ByteDance, has hit one billion installs.
According to data from Sensor Tower, TikTok has crossed over the 1 billion mark for installs worldwide. This data includes region and lite versions of the app, and 663 million of these installs occurred in 2018.
TikTok is now the fourth most installed non-gaming app in the world, though it was ranked at third back in 2018. A total of 25 per cent of TikTok’s downloads have come from India, with an estimated total of 250 million. In January 2019, 43 percent of the app’s new users were from India, compared to just 9.5 per cent in January of 2018.
The total installs of users based in the United States for the app so far stands at more than 96 million. The recent push from TikTok and these new numbers put it right behind other big social media platforms, such as Facebook.
For reference, Instagram saw around 444 million downloads last year, while behemoth Facebook was installed around 711 million times in 2018.
