TikTok is reportedly testing shopping links in videos

TikTok is reportedly trialing a new feature that lets creators share direct links to products in their videos.

According to Digiday, it'll let influencers on the platform link their audiences to external products as part of brand deals. It could provide a new way for influencers to monetise on TikTok, as well as looping in external companies and brands.

“We are constantly experimenting with ideas and features to improve the app experience for our users,” a TikTok spokeswoman told Digiday.

“TikTok is a platform for creative expression and a big part of that is showing and sharing the things you love with others. We’re in the early stages of testing a way users can add links to products to their videos and will share more updates when we have them.”

The revenue will be reportedly shared between the creator and TikTok, but the split is yet to be confirmed. The company has previously discussed a 20/80 split with the majority going to TikTok.

This week, the platform crossed over 2 billion lifetime installs, with 315 million installs taking place in Q1 2020. TikTok also launched a donation sticker function, giving creators the ability to embed a charitable donation link into their content.
