Twitch releases Rooms, allowing streamers to create sub-chats for their communities

Streaming giant Twitch has announced the launch of Rooms - a feature that allows streamers to provide separate chat spaces for their audience.

"Whether you want a room for spoilers, permanent sub-only chat, or even a room for moderators to sharpen their swords, rooms lets streamers set a topic and choose who has access. Plus it’s just like stream chat, all your badges and emotes carry over." Twitch stated in their blog

"We’ve designed rooms to make offline chat better than ever. For example @mentions will notify the recipient making it easier than ever to keep the conversation going. And because rooms are built directly into the channel, it’s easy to get your entire community involved."

Room for expansion

Twitch first revealed Rooms at Twitchcon back in October 2017, along with a host of other new features.

Starting today, Rooms will be available for all users worldwide on the web and on mobile, with plans to bring the feature to Twitch's desktop client in the near future.

The Rooms service will allow streamers to filter their communities better; the main chat stream can often become overwhelmed when a streamer has a larger audience.

Rooms will allow subscribers to benefit from their own quieter spaces, and moderators can discuss community issues within their own confined area also.

Twitch Rooms will be active even if a streamer is offline, promoting the use of Twitch as a social platform as well as an entertainment one.
