YouTube aims to bring 'picture in picture' video to desktop

The video service is reportedly trialling its picture-in-picture feature on desktop.

The YouTube app on mobile devices has a floating player so users can still watch or listen to a YouTube video whilst browsing the app.

According to 9To5Google, the feature is being tested in the browser version of YouTube through Google Chrome and Safari.

The update has only rolled out to a small amount of users at this stage. It will allow users to minimise the video they're watching and continue to navigate the entire website without the video pausing, the same way they would on mobile.

No word yet as to whether this will become a default function like it is on the YouTube mobile application, or whether users will be able to toggle it on and off in YouTube's settings.
