You can now tip Twitch streamers with cryptocurrency

Streamers who integrate with Streamlabs now have the option of allowing viewers to tip them in four different cryptocurrencies.

By enabling integration with their Coinbase account, content creators can receive payments in bitcoin cash (BCH), ethereum (ETH), litecoin (LTC), and bitcoin core (BTC). Other currencies may be added in the future.

Streamers need only to link their Coinbase and Twitch accounts together to get the process underway. Crypto payments can be disabled at any time via the Streamlabs donation settings page.

Tip of the hat

“Cryptocurrency tips will act exactly the same as [normal tips], which means they will integrate seamlessly into your alerts, recent events panel, and everywhere else in the Streamlabs ecosystem,” Streamlabs’ Tom Maneri said.

“Streamlabs does not charge a fee, but some network transaction fees may apply depending on the currency being used. Additionally, Coinbase may charge to convert your cryptocurrency into your native currency.”

Maneri added that crypto tips cannot be reversed of cancelled.

Streamlabs is reportedly now present on around 15 per cent of all Twitch streams, and was accountable for nearly $35m in tips in the first quarter of 2018 alone.
