We're all familiar with game jams - the art of making a quick indie title in a limited amount of time.
The Twitch Extension Jam is a play on the game jam format - a brand new community run event will see developers making bespoke tools for the streaming platform.
Pump up the jam
The Extension Jam is headed by Andy Morrell, a hobbyist Twitch developer. The event is also supported by Twitch's official dev team.
"The Twitch Extension Jam is similar to a game jam where you typically give developers a time scale and a theme in which to create a game. This is different in being specific to Twitch Extensions," Morrell said.
"This is the first one and I created it. My community doesn't currently have any other events or meetups. However I do try and do a TwitchDev supported stream at least once a month. This being the 4th event."
Participants have just six days to dream up, design and develop their extension. When it's finished, devs can submit it to be judged by Morrell.
Devs are being encouraged to use the hashtag #TEJ2018 to document their work.
The theme of the event is 'Go Nuts!'. As this is the first Extension Jam, it's all about encouraging developers to get involved with Twitch, and give the extension building rig a go.
The event closes on July 29th.
Join me Sunday 22nd July for the Theme Announcement for Twitch Extension Jam 2018. I've teamed up with @TwitchDev to bring the first Twitch Extension competition.
