Japanese sensation Hello Kitty now has her own YouTube channel.
You read that correctly. The Sanrio-owned feline friend released her debut video today, and it was surprisingly deep.
In the video, Kitty is portrayed as somewhat of an old-timer, and that she's seeking to connect with her audience more. She also says that it took a while for her managers at Sanrio to agree to give her a YouTube channel. The channel has already amassed 16,000 subs at the time of writing.
The video also serves as a lesson in online safety; with Kitty's saying her managers told her that "the internet is dangerous".
YouTube Kitty
The entire video circles around Hello Kitty wanting to start a YouTube channel, and having to fight with her management to do so. She also gives a motivational talk on pursuing your dreams. Kitty is also planning to do YouTube collaboratons with other Sanrio 'friends'.
The channel looks to be some sort of avenue for Sanrio to break in to the YouTube space. Having a flagship character like Hello Kitty inside the online creator world seems like a superb way to connect with fans online.
Hello Kitty is not the only virtual influencer either; there's a lot of computer-generated stars rising through the ranks.
