BBC calculates that 90 per cent of its core audience can be reached through online services

It seems that online is beginning to reign supreme, or at least where the BBC is concerned.

The company is now looking to refine its online services as it claims that 90 per cent of its audience can be found on internet services.

The BBC will be focusing harder on iPlayer, Sport, News and Weather, alongside CBBC and educational outlet Bitesize. It'll also be working on Sounds - a music app succeeding iPlayer Radio.

With these improvements, the company believes it can really compete with other online services.

Internet presence

“In the global marketplace against well-resourced competitors we have to concentrate on a smaller number of standout services that deliver our very best content online.” BBC director general Lord Hall told employees.

Hall is aware that most of the BBC's younger audience resides online, and wants the company to make an effort to connect with it. With plans to increase the company's reach from 55 per cent to 90 per cent over the next four years, Hall believes a larger focus on internet based content will bring in that younger demographic.

This shift in focus could inevitably present an opportunity for online personalities and influencers to connect with the flagship broadcaster.
