Microsoft Mixer gets new game-streaming app in beta

Microsoft has launched a brand new version of its Mixer game-streaming app in beta, promising that it will make it easier for people to discover broadcasts to watch.

The new app is available for Android and iOS, based on feedback from its existing community of viewers and livestreamers.

“Our beta update today features significant enhancements around the core user experience, content discoverability, app performance, and personalisation -- but it’s just the beginning,” blogged Xbox senior program manager Jerome Holman.

Those improvements include revamping the ‘trending’ section of the app to make it easier to dig in to popular streams and games on Mixer, with the latter getting dedicated hubs to show who’s currently streaming.

Holman also explained that personalisation has been beefed up in the new beta app. “We’ve added a Following section so you can see what’s happening with the broadcasters you care about, as well as recommended streamers to check out,” he wrote.

The news follows Microsoft’s commercial launch of Mixer Create in early September: an app for Mixer’s community of broadcasters to stream and chat live from their smartphones.
