Snapchat's Discover feature now has its first LGBT+ partner

Snap has signed up British news website PinkNews as the first LBGT partner for the Snapchat Discover section of the app.

PinkNews will launch in the app today as the company widens its range of partners and expands Discover’s reach to more groups of people.

It aims to appeal to a younger audience who are still discovering themselves.

LGBT content has previously been present on the app’s feature but there has never been a permanent slot for it until now. PinkNews has around five million readers with large audiences in both the UK and US.

Good times

The new channel will have updates twice a week with thought-provoking stories and features aimed to reach beyond the LGBT community, in order to raise awareness. There are plans in place to make the content daily once they have more staff in place.

"It's a very different editorial process. You need to invest in after-effects and graphic designers. It's been a real learning curve," CEO and editor-in-chief of PinkNews, Benjamin Cohen said.

PinkNews also recently received a Google Digital News Innovation Fund grant of $350k, this will help to connect the website’s readers with worldwide LBGT causes and charities.
