Snapchat unveils another bulk of original content

Social app Snapchat has added another handful of Snap Original content to its existing collection.

The new batch of vertical content is exclusive to Snapchat and includes a mix of comedies, dramas and unscripted shows. The most notable of the collection is 'Tekashi69 vs. The World', a docu-series following the rise and fall of the rapper.

Other shows include Nikita Unfiltered, a series following transgender beauty YouTuber Nikita Dragun, and Mind Yourself, an educational series surrounding mental health. All of these shows will arrive on Snapchat in winter 2020.

Snapchat has also renewed existing Snap Original shows, including Bringing Up Bhabie, Kappa Crypto, Two Sides, and The Dead Girls Detective Agency.

“Snap Originals are made for the unique behaviours of mobile. Each episode averages five minutes in length and brands can purchase Commercials within these shows, Snap's six-second, non-skippable ad format," the company said in a statement.

Fun for all

Snap has made a series of moves to widen its demographics over the last year. After an unsuccessful rebrand saw user numbers plummet, Snap has come back with a redesign and a strong roster of original content, as well as gaming platform, Snap Games.

The company has also gone hard on advertising this year, including its recent 'real friends' campaign which saw Snapchat advertisements pop up across rival photo-sharing platform Instagram.

"When we launched Snapchat more than seven years ago, it wasn’t about capturing the traditional Kodak moment, or trying to look pretty or perfect," Snap said regarding the campaign.

“We wanted to create a way for our friends to express themselves and share however they felt in the moment."
