Snapchat launches Storytellers to merge influencers with advertising

Snapchat is to launch Snapchat Storytellers', in a bid to connect influencers with brands.

This new form of advertising will appear in Discover and Stories, and it’ll feature the most popular Snapchat users.

The aim is to assist brands with their own content creation and help brands utilise Sncapchat's features.

The company won't receive any profit from any deals made through this feature or signing any company or creator on a contract. However it could give Snapchat a income boost if companies become more willing to invest into the company and app.

A number of creators and brands will be added to it’s list of partners and help to initiate a deal between the two if both are interested. Five popular creators including Shonduras, Mplatco and Cyrene Q will be linked with various companies.

It’s a late but smart move by Snapchat as it it will help brands make well performing ads with the support from the creators who have been utilising the platform for years and and have large audiences.

In the last quarter, Snap lost $385 million and missed it’s estimated revenue by $14 million. With similar features on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp on the rise, getting more investment is crucial.

Snapchat has also started to offer unskippable ads to brands and premium publishers for the first time.
