Instagram rolls out Snapchat-style nametags

Instagram has introduced Nametags, a digital card that can be scanned to locate a user's profile.

Inspired by the Snapcode, Nametag lets users create a customised graphic that will take other users to their profile when scanned. They can be decked out with emojis, stickers and colours.

The feature is available for Instagram on both iOS and Android. There's two ways to use the tag; either scan it with your camera by swiping right, or tap the 'scan a Nametag' option in the settings.

Nametags can also be shared on other social media sites, similar to Snapcodes. This lets users on other platforms scan your tag and view your Instagram profile without manually searching for it.

School socials

Some schools in the US have begun using the Nametag function as a way for children to communicate with one another. By adding their school, class year and subject, attendees can filter through and connect with users with similar interests.

Students will then bee ablee to view a list of every profile attached to their school or subject, a move that is reminiscent of Facebook's early years.
