Leading online video conference VidCon has been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic.
The event was scheduled to go ahead in mid-June in Anaheim, California. However, Viacom-owned VidCon has confirmed that the 2020 event will no longer go ahead.
VidCon confirmed that all ticket purchases will be fully refunded and that they will not be valid for any future VidCon events. There's no word yet on whether the 2020 installment will be rescheduled, but the company said they'll share details no later than June 15th.
“Unfortunately, due to the continued uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 we made the difficult decision to cancel #VidConUS. We are working hard to bring you a VidCon US experience this fall, and will keep you posted as those details come together! " VidCon GM Jim Louderback said in a statement.
Alongside canceling its flagship US event, VidCon has also postponed its first convention in the UAE.VidCon Abu Dhabi will now take place on December 16th - 19th.
Back in January, VidCon went ahead with its second UK event at London's ExCel Centre. The weekend hosted a rich roster of online video creators, as well as two days of industry-focused talks and panels. You can check out our coverage of that event here.
